11-23-11 Santa Cruz is a small, non-touristy town in Costa Rica, not far from Nicoya in Guanacaste.
The next time you’re in Santa Cruz make sure to have lunch at El Portoncito (the red building to the left with the Coca-Cola sign.)
I had the Casado con Carne and it was delicious. The meat was so fresh and tender I think they killed the cow out back about five minutes before they served it to me!
To the north of Santa Cruz is the town of Guaitil, where about two dozen families all have shops and make pottery, coffee mugs, bowls, plates, etc. Their workshops are right next to or part of their homes.
Sunset over the Rio Tempisque in Puerto Humo, to the north of Guaitil.
